10 Ways
to Ask Him
to Dance

Written by James Bianco - Edited by Shesha Marvin

You're at the dance. You've been there for an hour. You've gotten a couple dances from guys you normally dance with. Suddenly, you see him. He's across the room, dancing with a girl who, at that moment, you wish was you. Maybe it's because he's a great dancer and it just looks like it would be a blast. Maybe he just looks that good, and you're interested in seeing if he's as single as you are. Maybe he has a "kick me" sign taped on his back, and you feel sympathy for him. No matter. Deep inside, you want that next dance. Realizing this, you remember the old adage "sometimes, if you want something in life, you just have to go get it". Here are 10 ways to make sure you get that next dance.
1The Over Confident: Walk up and stick out your hand and say "Rock my world."
2The Eager Wallflower: Stand just in his peripheral vision and bop back and forth to the music. Be close enough that every few seconds you bump sholders. He won't be able to help asking you.
3The Flirt:Tried and true. Butter him up with trite conversation and playful glances and build up to the request.
4The Flutter: Kid sister to the flirt. Best performed silently. Smile really big, stare up at him out of the corner of your eyes, and start batting those pretty little eyelids as fast as they'll go. If he doesn't get the hint or say "awwww, how cute", he's into older women. If you're an older woman, he doesn't like role-playing.
5The Muse: Is he standing around ignoring your favorite song? Throw down your best solo Charleston, tap, or shim sham steps right in front of him so that he knows you're doing it to get his attention. If he isn't inspired enough to come out and join you, try to signal to him that you want him to join you. When all else fails, this is a great spot to attempt Snatch and Grab (see next).
6The Snatch and Grab:Yes, this one's a bit risky and is definitely not recommended for the faint of heart. Sometimes, though, you can just read a person and know that they wouldn't mind a bit. Just walk up, look him in the eye, grab his hand, and get him out on the floor! This maneuver is best pulled off when he leaves the floor after a song has ended.
7Blackmail (a.k.a. dance extortion) Find a way to make him feel like he's bumped you or somehow stepped on your foot while out on the floor. This works even better if he actually has. You've really got to sell this one. When he asks you if you're ok, respond by saying "well, I WILL be after we've danced the next song."
8The Drink (a.k.a. the bribe): Buy your way into his favor by offering to get him a drink, then pop the question. Money may not buy you happiness, but sometimes it can get you a dance.
9The wing(wo)man: Get a girl friend with a bit more courage to approach him and say, "My friend over there wants to dance with you but she thinks you are too good." This will work 99% of the time.
10The Lesson: Probably the easiest and most pressure free method of all. Walk up to him and say "I just learned this new dance step and Id really like to practice it. Would you like to help me?"
